Vasse Midgets 1 d Margaret River Starfish

THE Starfish went into Saturday’s game minus the run and stun of Quinn ‘the steam train’ Cargill Fletcher and the cool heads of Bryce Bennett and Amelia Desmond.

With no subs available it was always going to be a hard game.

‘Smiling’ Sam McInerney kept goals in the first half and was superbly supported by Oscar ‘Stretch’ Armstrong in defence.

Oscar was miserly, intercepting time and again to thrust the Starfish forward.

The first half was predominantly defensive in nature and to the Midgets’ credit, they eventually forced one through the Starfish defences into the back of the net.

In contrast the second half was primarily attacking.

Oscar was moved forward and teamed well with centre pack Luca North, Sam McInerney and Angel Waters-Boyd.

Whenever the ball crossed into the back half, the defensive dynamic duo of Anj Kupfer-Hollis and Joe ‘Harry high pants’ Sharpe mopped up with Bryce Junk-Gibson comfortably stopping anything that did make it to the goal line.

The most pleasing aspect of the game was the overall fearlessness of the Starfish play and attack on the ball at all times.

It may have been a loss on the scoresheet but it was a win in the eyes of the coach and proud parents who witnessed the game.

Well done again, Starfish.
