Local champions up there with the best

JUNIOR Member Kerrod Gray visited Margaret River Golf Club this weekend.

Kerrod is now living and working in Perth, and has a full schedule of golf tournaments this year,: he will be playing in the New Zealand Under 19s in New Zealand in September, the Jack Newton International in NSW in October and the Aaron Baddley World Qualifying Event in Victoria where the top five players will represent Australia in China.

We wish him the best of luck in these events.

Wednesday Women

The Women played the first Round of the Qualifying Championships sponsored by Reflections.

The day winners were for B Grade Kim Robson shooting 69 nett, Bernadette Campbell was runner-up with 72 on a countback from Val Meleri 72.

A Grade winner was Allison Kelly with 70 nett, Sue Bloxam was runner-up with 75 nett on a countback from Kerry Farrelly and Penny Foy both with 75 nett.

Novelties went to Kerry Farrell, Val Meleri, Wendy Campbell, Ricky Coates, Rhonda Hearn and Libby Dawson.

Joan Garstone won the putting competition with 26 putts.

Julie Campbell won the Consistency award for July.

Thursday’s Scroungers was sponsored by Margaret River Finance with Mick O’Hara the winner with 39 points on a countback from Ken MacKenzie 39 and Bob Garman third with 38 points.

Rod Bedford won the Gross with 31 points.

Novelties went to Rod Bedford, Mick O’Hara, Richard Catchpole, Garry Clemens, Ryan Miller, Bob Garman, Laurie Bedford, Garry Austin, Mark Kevill and Richard Holt.

Saturday’s Men’s Stableford event was sponsored by Eagle Boys Pizza.

The winner was Gary Wightman with 38 points, runner-up was Rod Bedford 37 points, third was Nic Taplin with 36.

Kerrod Gray won the Gross with 32.

Novelties went to Richard Catchpole, Mal Bromley, Henri Liebenberg, Craig McCarthy, Steve Owen, Richard Catchpole and Mick O’Hara.

Sunday’s Mixed Par Plus event was sponsored by Edwards Winery with Jeff Hedstrom the winner with +3, Ricki Coates was runner-up with +2 and Matt O’Connell was third with +1.

Novelties went to Jeff Hedstrom, Gary Wightman, Kevin Shemeld, Mal Bromley and Rhonda Zanich.

The Vets played Stableford with Alan Dale the winner while Colin Andrews was runner-up on a countback from Geoff Harveson and Tony Foy.

Colin Andrews and Vince Home won the novelties.

Friday Ladies saw Val Meleri continue her good form winning with 19 points.

Runner-up was Mary Taylor with 16 points.

Val Meleri won the novelty.
