Clean, even match for Roos versus Bulls

2/07/2008 11:27:00 AM
Bulls v Roos

THE Bulls and Roos always seem to step up a peg or two when they meet, and today was no exception.

Bulls coach Christo Edwards told his team it was one of the best games he thought they had played all year.

In the first quarter, the Bulls had the breeze and used it to their full advantage.

Sol Edwards marked and played on passing to Tasman Stanlake who kicked the first goal of the match.

The Bulls were chasing and tackling hard, led by Tom Menzies, Blake McKinley and Lucas May.

The Roos lent the Bulls some of their players and Bill Hampton kicked a great goal for the Bulls.

The Roos continued their excellent recent form in the first quarter with great teamwork and a growing awareness for finding a loose team-mate with their handpassing and kicking.

Tiger Wholagan moved the ball out of the centre well with solid support from the Haslau brothers.

The Bulls however made the most of the first quarter, while the Roos weren’t able to score from their moves into attack.

The second quarter proved to be more successful for the Roos, moving the ball out of the centre well with some accurate kicking and brilliant marking.

Roly Kyme and Finn Haslau were two of the players who kicked goals in the quarter.

Hamish Mearns worked tirelessly around the packs, getting plenty of touches.

Sean Gill took several important marks.

Kila Hatchet and Harry Godridge combined well to get the ball out of the middle.

It was a great performance across the whole ground by the Roos team.

The Bulls’ Noah Traeger and Seb Miller played well and were strong in the backline.

Kash Jones kicked a massive bomb after taking a strong defensive mark. Justin May was constantly peppering the goals, supported by Matthew Fokkema and Ben Hopkins.

Jarred Fokkema, in his first game, held the backline together and Kyle Schoof was in under the packs.

Matt Stirling had another blinder and took a screamer in the third quarter, and passed cleanly to Kila Hatchett.

Kila, a Roo, playing for the Bulls, marked strongly and kicked a great goal.

The second half of the game was pretty even, both teams had plenty of the ball with some of the best kicking and marking seen this season.

The Roos showed great depth with many players showed a real commitment to get to the ball.

Oliver Kable fought hard to get the ball out of the packs, Frank Bennett and Blake Smith continued to get more of the ball with each game.

Jack Haslau was nimble, with many touches and excellent teamwork.

Elias Hancock played solidly while Bill Hampton, Taj Hedley and Kyle Graham played well.

Zeke Gherardi was brilliant in defence, denying the Bulls a couple of goals which would have turned the game in their favour.

Jye Nikulinsky started to look more comfortable on the field with a few neat handballs to his team-mates and Rosie Jane Simpson made a great effort to get into the game this week, taking a particularly good mark from a great pass by Sean Gill.

Patrick Larkin of the Bulls was getting a few touches and handballed cleanly to Kalani Ord who was having a great game and seeing a lot of the play.

A highlight of the game was seeing the players finding some space and looking for and passing cleanly to each other.

A great team effort played in a safe and friendly environment.

Thanks to the Roos for sharing your players with the Bulls, your sportsmanship is outstanding.

Best players

Bulls-Kashmir Jones, Jared Fokkema, Kyle Schoof
