BUSSELTON hosted Augusta-Margaret River at Bovell Park last Saturday.
Busselton were successful in the three games which were played in cold and windy conditions.
LEAGUE
The rivalry of the two clubs was very evident from the start of the match with close checking and hard tackling a feature of the game.
Justin Simmonds kicked the first goal to open the scoring for the Hawks.
Ryan Jeffery then kicked Busselton’s first goal.
Jordan Hughes and Jake Cassidy goaled for the Hawks and Nathan Bradbury and Ryan Jeffery goaled for the Magpies to give them a two point advantage at quarter time.
Busselton snapped a long goal at the start of the second through the efforts of Adam Booth.
Kyle Anderson received a 50m penalty and goaled for the Hawks.
Play was very competitive with both teams giving their all.
Morgan Cooper for the Magpies and Jordan Hughes for the Hawks both kicked goals and at the long break Busselton led by 10 points.
The third quarter was very competitive and as a result only one goal was kicked by each team.
Jordan Hughes kicked the Hawks’ and James Price kicked the Magpies’ goal and the hard tackling and running of both sides made play very competitive around the centre of the ground.
At the last change Busselton led by 11 points.
In the early part of the last quarter a poor umpiring decision resulted in a 50m penalty for Busselton and James Caldo goaled.
Busselton took the ball from the centre bounce and Ryan Jeffery kicked his third goal.
Hawks had a lot of the play but failed to finish it off with goals.
Daniel Vogt and Kris Straughan for the Magpies and Justin Simmonds and Kyle Anderson all kicked goals in the later half of the quarter and at the final siren Busselton were victorious by 31 points.

Busselton dominated the first kicking six goals and keeping Augusta-Margaret River goalless.
To the Hawks’ credit they fought hard in the last three quarters with Busselton kicking 12 goals to the Hawks’ 10 goals but the bad first quarter by the Hawks cost them the game.
