THE Augusta-Margaret River Shire is sponsoring a special competition for children under 13 years of age at this year’s Margaret River and Districts Agricultural Show.
If you have not turned 13 years old by November 1, 2008 and live in the shire you may compete for prize money.
This award is to encourage young people to exhibit and pursue their artistic and creative talents.
The title of the competition is Honouring the Farmer and Celebrating Our Agricultural History.
The aim is to encourage the participation of young people in the show and to foster a better understanding of the role of agriculture in our society.
There are three categories you can enter: Art, Sculpture and Literature.
Art is for painting, drawing or collage that depicts your ideas (photographs not accepted) while sculpture is in media such as clay, stone, fruit, food, plasticine or wood.
For Literature you can write a short story or compose a poem.
This entry must be handwritten and cannot be an electronic production.
Prizes are awarded for the items which best encapsulate or represent the sentiments of the awards and not necessarily the best technical pieces.
There will be three prizes in each category as follows; first $100, second $50 and third $25 in each section.
The winners in each section will also win $75 for their school.
Participants are encouraged to be diverse and innovative in their choice of material and subject as long as it relates to the theme.
The show schedules will be printed and distributed soon.
These contain descriptions and entry forms for all the classes of exhibit that young people can become involved in as well as the special under 13 event.
The schedule of events, competitions and contacts along with all the relevant entry forms are available on the website www.margaretriveragshow.com
